Do you ever wonder why people have a willingness to spend their money for a glass of coffee instead of buying a meal? The most famous coffee chain shop, Starbucks Coffee has built in many places in Indonesia. People are feeling proud of seating or just holding a cup on their way to their office. Price is not mattered anymore as long as the benefits of buyers equally as they spend the money. Otherwise, others still like to go to traditional coffee shop for the authentic one. Based on my personal experience, four main things differ people to choose which one they will go are ambience, taste and time-serving, food company and membership.

The first thing is ambience of the coffee shop starts from entering the store, ordering the drink, picking the seating chairs, taking the drink, and sitting while enjoying the music Details are very important for Starbucks Coffee. They thought the place is everything and you can feel that comfortable ambience when you are entering their shop. In a traditional one, usually, most of the chairs are looking similar. When you sit down, the waitress comes to you to ask the drink that you want. The decoration of the traditional coffee shop is simple, and most of the place is not using the air conditioner.

The second thing is the taste and time serving. In Starbucks Coffee, you can try the medium coffee mix with the range of flavours, for instance, caramel, mocha, chocolate, green tea. Besides, you can add the topping with the whipped cream, caramel or chocolate sauce or cinnamon powder. The average of time serving is less than five minutes, compares to traditional one is usually takes five to eight minutes. On the other hand, traditional one offers limited flavours or mixed taste. Mostly, people find the black and strong coffee, and they can add with white sugar or sweetened condensed milk.

The third thing is the food menu that the shop offers to you. Starbucks Company provides the western food company, for example, sandwich, croissant, panini, cookies, yoghurt, and juice. It is unique with the traditional coffee shop in my country, Indonesia; you can find our traditional food and mostly served in fried like fried soybean cake (tempe goreng), fried cassava (singkong goreng), fried tofu (tahu goreng) with the spicy sauce. If you want just to have a snack time, maybe traditional it can be better for you. On the other hand, if you like to eat as your main meal for breakfast or lunch, just go to Starbucks.

The last thing is the loyalty program that the shop offered. If you are going to Starbucks, they engage with their customer through Starbucks Card. You can get a free drink if you purchase their merchandise or top-up with the card. In addition, you can get free food or beverage when you already buy ten foods or drinks. As a member, you also get daily or weekly advertisement if there is any promotional event that the company offer. On the other side, many the traditional shop does not give the loyalty program. The shop usually maintains from how they serve the customer to get back to their shop.

In conclusion, people have several preferences to choose the coffee shop. Sometimes, the price is not the main thing; people can negotiate with other things if they get the same advantages. The other things can also play a big part to influence customer’s decision namely the atmosphere of the place, the taste and time-serving, the food menu and the membership. When we think people come to the coffee shop for drink good coffee, sometimes we get wrong. People tend to go to coffee shop, although they are not looking for coffee, but also for the place that makes them comfortable to spend their time.

God’s time is never late or too quick. It is always in time according to His plan. As a human, I learn to believe in His plan and not my plan. It takes the time to bring me to this understanding.

We have a lot of plans, dreams, and hopes in our life. To be an efficient person, we also have a timeline for that. However, in reality, it does not always happen as we planned. Do you just remember the event that comes up in your mind? What is your first response to the situation like that?

I have one of the biggest dreams in my life. It is never easy to pursue it. I need to take a long time to continue it, but I never give up because I believe there is a way to get there until it seems no way. I dreamed it in my mind in ten years ago. I just realised to make it a reality in three years later. I was not directly to get into my dream, but it took me go around in somewhere else. Until the day came, I could say that in three years ago, I need to start it. It is not like other people; I did not arrive it as my schedule.

Was I stopped and depressed? For a moment, yes. Otherwise, He always is there for the people who I met. The people that helped me to try it again, again and again. From those experiences, I learned about being human in the following insights:

  1. Prayer is the best way to know and understand His plans
  2. Thank the person who always supports you and does not do that. You got two lessons: to know the real mate and to forgive the opposing one.
  3. Keep practising and do what you can do.

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart, yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” -Ecclesiastes 3:11

Time Travel

Inspired by “About Time” movie which I watched a few weeks ago, makes me think about the moment that I want to reset. The film tells the story of father and son who have the ability to go back to the past. They do time travel for a variety of interests and goals as well. They try to fix the past moment to have something better.

Maybe if I could move backward, I could avoid things that are not good for me and also others. I could prepare anything correctly so no more unexpected things that make me tired, upset, sad, etc. Everything happens according to my plan and life will surely be wonderful.

In the middle of the movie, I was shown the other side of time travel. No matter which way or decisions that you take there will be another challenge waiting. Remember about a quote, you have the freedom of choice, but you never have the freedom of consequence. We must take responsibility for decisions that have been made. Every decision we make inevitably followed by responsibility as a result.

What I learned from this movie is life is beautiful if we want to see it as a wonderful thing. Back to the past, hoping to fix things that already happened, and wish everything will be perfect, it just a fantasy. Live your life with positive thinking, be grateful, and entrust everything to God. Let God as our creator leads our way, never doubt of His plan because everything has been prepared and will be beautiful in its time.

The Power of Sharing

I woke up this morning and felt so grateful for a new day gave by God. Nothing else better than having one more chance to live this life. What will you do to live a life? Each people surely have their own way and so do I. I have no privilege to give an argument about what should you do to have a better life.

After seven years of living apart with parents I just realized the power of sharing. I touched by God through my solitude. I finally knew the beauty of sharing which make life complete and that’s priceless 🙂 .

“Love only grows by sharing. You can olny have more for yourself by giving it away to others” (Brian Tracy).

Last December 2012, I came to an orphanage organization which accommodates under five years babies. There are more than ten babies with variety of ages, race, and congenital disease. I see honesty from an ordinary peoples who dedicate their life to take care those poor babies. They treat the babies with love, patience, and sincerity. Nothing else better than giving your TIME to others. Time is the greatest gift you can give to someone. Because it is like giving a portion of your life that you can never get back. That was the thing I have learned after visiting.

“This life is for loving, sharing, learning, smiling, caring, forgiving, laughing, hugging, helping, dancing, wondering, healing, and even more loving. I choose to live life this way. I want to live my life in such a way that when I get out of bed in the morning, the devil says, ‘aw shit, he’s up!” (Steve Maraboli, Unapologetically You : Reflections on Life and the Human Experience).

Do you want to share your time to others? How do you gonna spend your time and live this life? Let answer it by ourselves..! One thing to remember is we just live once so give your best and let God do the rest.
